The number of packages delivered during Singles' Day, China's largest e-commerce shopping festival, hit a new high. Now the shopping spree has come to an end, some firms are looking for greener solutions to the massive packaging waste problem. In China, e-comm giant Alibaba and L’Oreal are partnering on “green packaging” to ask customers to return the packaging rather than toss it in the trash.
As consumers, we love the speed and convenience of shopping online and the ‘just-got-a-gift’ feeling of boxes turning up on our doorstep while turning a blind eye to the environmental cost of online retails, particularly when it comes to packaging.
